This is an interesting idea, but what about the people who were rejected from identifying as the first part of the hyphen. This morning, in one of my classes, we discussed briefly the currently ongoing rescue of the Chilean miners. A friend of mine said he didn’t care. When I asked him why (I should mention that the complexity of our conversation was limited as this was a foreign-language class and therefore we were not speaking in our native language), he said he didn’t know enough about the situation.

This is SUCH a problematic statement. I am NOT at all disagreeing with the fact that Palestinians suffer misery in settled areas. I am not disagreeing with the fact that many Israelis inflict that pain and misery. And yes, the Israelis who are inflicting the pain are Jewish.
